New Google Android TV dongle and remote leaked

As you may know, Google is working on a new streaming device that will be based on its Android TV platform. The device is said to be different from the company’s existing lineup of Chromecast streaming device in the sense that it’ll be accompanied by a remote and offer OTT content.

The new Google Android TV dongle code-named as “Sabrina” is expected to launch soon. Ahead of that, XDA Developers has shared a few images of the Google Android TV dongle, including its remote and UI, via a marketing video. This is how the device is going to look like this as shown below.

The leaked images of the upcoming Google streaming device looks similar to the current Chromecast device. The form factor, however, will reportedly be oblong instead of circular. It’s further being reported that the device will come in Black, White, and new light pink colour options.

As for the Google Android TV dongle’s remote, it’s shown off in a plain white colour, though there could be other hues as well. The remote seems to have a curved top-edge, circular pad and dedicated buttons to go back, jump to the home screen, and activate Google Assistant, among other things.

The UI of the Google Android TV dongle seems to be focusing more on content. As seen from the images above, there is a list of TV shows and movies as well as an auto-scrolling carousel of recommended titles along with the service provider that offers the content. The device is also expected to show alerts from Google Nest doorbells and video cameras, which is already possible on Assistant-powered smart displays. Lastly, YouTube TV will be integrated into the device’s “Live” tab.

Talking about the specifications, the Google streaming device is said to feature Dolby Vision support and an unknown Amlogic SoC. The device is rumoured to be priced around or below $80 (~SGD115) in the US. While Google is yet to confirm the launch date, the device may debut alongside the Pixel 4a. The latter is expected to launch in July.
