Microsoft has confirmed that it will hold its annual hardware event on 22 September, with the Surface Pro 8 likely to be unveiled.
Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the upcoming 2-in-1 laptop right now, with few rumours indicating what new upgrades we could see. We expect the Surface Pro 8 to see a processor refresh, while potentially getting a new design to bring it more in line with the Surface Pro X. Keep on scrolling for everything you need to know about the Surface Pro 8, and keep this page bookmarked to keep up with all of the latest updates in the coming weeks. Release date The Surface Pro 8 will likely be announced during Microsoft’s upcoming event on 22 September. Microsoft tends to launch its Surface devices shortly after its showcase event, so an October release window is highly likely if the 2-in-1 laptop does make an appearance.
Price
The Surface Pro 8 will likely have a starting price of around £799 (~SGD $1,483.66). This is the same original retail price of the Surface Pro 7, as Microsoft typically retains the same price point between generations. However, Microsoft will likely launch pricier configuration options that comfortably surpass the £2000-mark if you want the most powerful option available. Specs The Surface Pro 8 is expected to have a processor refresh, with the 10th Generation Intel Processors from the Surface Pro 7 starting to look slightly outdated. Microsoft has since launched the Surface Pro 7+ for business, which packs the more powerful 11th Generation Intel Core chips. Microsoft will likely stick with these processor options for the Surface Pro 8. There’s also a chance that Microsoft could utilise an AMD Ryzen processor after making them available for the Surface Laptop 4. However, it’s unlikely that the Surface Pro 8 will feature Intel’s upcoming Alder Lake processor, which are set to launch later this year.
Design
It’s currently unknown whether Microsoft will give the Surface Pro 8 a redesign. Looking at previous devices, Microsoft is typically reluctant to update the design of its Surface products, with the Surface Laptop 4 looking identical to the Surface Laptop 2. However, Microsoft may want to update the Surface Pro 8 so it looks more similar to the Surface Pro X. The mystery device teased below in the Microsoft tweet could well be the Surface Pro 8 with a brand new design, although it’s probably more likely to be Surface Pro X instead.
The Surface Pro X has a thinner frame and a smaller screen bezel, both of which could help to improve the Surface Pro range.
