StarHub x Nvidia’s new GeForce Now tier with the power of an RTX 3080

27/10/2021

Nvidia has announced that its GeForce Now cloud-streaming service will get a new tier that boosts the performance to the level of an RTX 3080 graphics card

This new tier will allow subscribers to stream and play games at a 1440p resolution up to a 120fps performance, whether you’re playing on a desktop, laptop or mobile. The power of your own device won’t affect performance, so you can even use the likes of a MacBook if your internet connection is fast enough.

Sadly, 4K HDR support will only be available via Nvidia’s Shield TV at launch, but Nvidia did say that it will likely add widespread 4K support in the future once it optimises the servers.

Nvidia claims it has built the most powerful gaming supercomputer yet in order to provide this new tier, with the system featuring a whopping 39,2000 TFLOPs, 8960 CPU cores and 11,477,760 CUDA Cores.

This will apparently allow Nvidia to provide every subscriber with the performance equivalent to an RTX 3080 system with an 8-core Threadripper Pro CPU, 28GB of RAM and and PCIe-Gen 4 SSD. It will also support Ampere features such as ray tracing and DLSS.

NVIDIA's GeForce Now cloud gaming service, powered exclusively by StarHub, is now live.

The telco has previously revealed that non-StarHub customers can subscribe to GeForce Now for S$19.99 per month, and in the same press release today, we now know that StarHub customers' special rates are pretty attractive.

Monthly and annual passes for GeForce Now Powered by StarHub are available at S$11.99 and S$119.90 respectively for StarHub customers, while non-StarHub customers can also enjoy the full service at the above mentioned monthly subscription rate or S$199.90 annually.

It's important to be reminded that while GeForce Now enables you to play games on the Steam and Epic Games stores that support the cloud gaming service, you still have to own or buy these games in the first place. It's not the same as, say, Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass service, where a monthly subscription gives you access to its entire library of games.

Suffice to say, if you like the idea of gaming on a variety of devices anywhere, the GeForce Now cloud gaming service can be a very useful companion to expand your choice of devices.

StarHub customers can simply head over to GameHub+, a new and dedicated platform for gamers at www.gamehubplus.com/gfn to sign up for the service. You'll also find this option conveniently accessible through your My StarHub app where the home screen now has a new 'Gaming' tab.
