Almost three years after Kindle Basic 8th Gen, the next-generation entry- level Kindle has been announced by Amazon. The newest Kindle Basic 2019 now comes with many compelling features previously only found on the Paperwhite and Oasis. Stick around to find out which has the best bang for your buck....

One feature you should be excited to have is the front lighted display together with an E Ink Carta HD display that was previously missing in the Kindle Basic 8th Gen. There are 4 tiny LED lamps placed around the display, under the front bezel. They spread an even light over the display, making the text visible even during the darkest night. Opposite to LCD displays of tablets or smartphones, an e-paper technology allows to clearly display the text even in the brightest sun. Furthermore, the 2019 Kindle Basic includes updated electronic ink technology (E-Ink Carta HD Display previously only found on Paperwhite and Oasis Series) for better contrast. In the 2016 model, it was E-Ink Pearl display. It now also has Audible and Bluetooth, which you can buy audiobooks from the Kindle store and they can be listened to with a pair of wireless headphones or external speakers. However, do note that storage remains at 4GB for the Kindle Basic 2019.
The Kindle basic 2019 looks more modern and feminine. The shape has more curves and gives a false impression that the e-reader is lighter and smaller. The latest Kindle Basic 2019 is in fact slightly heavier at 171g and is heavier by 10g than Kindle 8th gen. The addition of front light system is the cause of it. The Kindle Basic 2019 has the same width and height as the predecessor. The only improvement is the thickness, it is now thinner: 0.34 in compared to 0.36 in the 2016 model. For screen size, it remains the 6-inch glare-free display on the Kindle Basic 2019, which is the same size as a lot of other e-readers including the popular Kindle Paperwhite model. In terms of resolution, Kindle Basic 2019 remains at 167 ppi, compared to 300 ppi found on Kindle Paperwhite 4 and Kindle Oasis 2.
Another key feature found in Kindle Paperwhite 4 and Kindle Oasis 2, is the waterproof function which the Kindle Basic 2019 also does not have.
If you are planning to use the Kindle Basic 2019 as an audiobook player, with its 4 GB of memory, you will be able to download only some 15 to 20 audiobook files. It is better to choose between the Paperwhite and Oasis 2 that comes with 8 GB of internal memory.
